Learning Mentor

Our Learning Mentor in school is Mrs McDowell a very experienced Senior Teaching Assistant. Mrs McDowell has recieved specialist training to become school Learning Mentor who helps individiual children and small groups with issues such as;

*Self control and anger management

*Self confidence and Self Esteem

*Understanding and dealing with emotions

Mrs McDowell also has an available drop in lunchtime session for any children who feel the need to talk to her. All pupils in school are aware this is available to them.

Mrs McDowell is also a trained and experience facitlitor in the kidsafe programme in school. This helps children to learn how to stay safe and to understand what this means, for example; using the internet, on social media and understanding trusted grownups.

Mrs McDowell has worked at St Patrick's for 15 years and  has been in the learning Mentor post for 5 years.

 

 

J Smith

Nurture Provison

Our Nurture group is run by Mrs Smith, a higher level teaching assistant and experience practitoner who has recieved specialist trining and qualifications in the theory and practice of nurture groups. She is a 'Happy to be me' Facilitator- a programme for children experiencing low self-esteem, lack of confidence and attatchment problems. Mrs Smith also delivers bereavement work in school, under the advice and guidance of a specialist from Howgill Family Centre.

Mrs Smith has worked at St Patrick's for 6 years and previously worked at Mayfield Special School for 16 years. At Mayfield she recieved training and specialist awards in working with children who have autism and challenging behaviour.
