Growth Mindset

Literacy

During Autumn term we studied the book ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ by Michelle Magorian.

Over Spring term we will be studying the book ‘Skellig’ by David Almond.

Guided Reading

This term for our Guided Reading sessions we will be studying these books

Topic

During Autumn term our topic was World Wars One and Two. We had great fun making models of the trenches.

We also enjoyed learning about Propaganda and even made our own propaganda posters.

When we learnt about World War 2, we found out about the devastating

air raids called “The Blitz”. This is short for “Blitzkrieg” which is German

for “lightning war”. We created silhouette artwork portraying The Blitz

on London.

Science

This term our Science focus is 'Properties and Changes of Materials'. We will be doing lots of experiments about how materials change. At the start of our  Science topic, we wrote questions about things we want to find out about materials.

During Autumn term our Science focus was on 'Animals, including humans' and 'Living things and their habitats'. We looked in detail at: the circulatory system, the scientist, William Harvey (who correctly represented the circulatory system) and blood and its four components (plasma, platelets, red blood cells and white blood cells). We also looked at the impact drugs and alcohol have on the human body.

PE

In P.E. we have been practising our Gymnastics skills. Here we are practising some balances.

 Art

During Autumn term we studied the artist Quentin Blake and we used his style to create our own artwork.

We also looked at World War art and created our own World War pictures.

Class Jobs

In year 5 we have different class jobs that most of us do. Some of these are things such as Book Monitors, Messengers and Equipment Monitors. Also we have people called Web Techs (Web Technicians) these people stay in after lunch and help sort out our class web page.

The Book Monitors are people who hand out the exercise books. The Messengers go to different classes and tell or hand out messages that the teacher tells them to. The Equipment Monitors sort out our caddies and see if we have the right equipment.
